Coitus interruptus
Love was (literally) in the air this weekend–a female grey squirrel was in heat and was getting a lot of attention from the boys in the neighbourhood. She (the grey one here) wasn’t too sure about the whole thing and spent a great deal of time avoiding her suitors at the end of branches, forty feet above the ground below.
The male melanistic grey squirrel (on the right) eventually got the chance to seal the deal. Both of them seemed somewhat nonchalant about a human popping up mid-act. But I did manage to get them paying more attention to me than their previous endeavours.
Time to get ges-tatin’

About me
I am an education researcher and practitioner, with a focus on higher education and the environment. I consider myself, above all, a naturalist. I'm the pack-mate of two border terriers. I live within the Speed River Watershed in Guelph, Ontario. I enjoy photography. I lead nature tours across North America. I teach courses on Natural History. I likely spend too much time on the Internet.
Oh, and the opinions expressed here are wholly my own.
