Spring (wild) Flowers

Coltsfoot Inflorescence, originally uploaded by Gavatron.

Ollie and I were out in Nordheimer Ravine yesterday and we saw that the Coltsfoot was in flower. I didn’t have my camera with me, so we returned there today.

Spring is here!

Seen on St. George Street. Sorry if this burns your eyes.

If you’ve got inconsistent Wood, you’ve got problems

A screen-grab of a Major League Baseball headline today:

Inconsistent wood

On purpose? Innocent mistake? You’ve gotta think they knew what they were doing with this headline.

Ant “farmers” and Hemipteran “cattle”

Ants and Aphids, originally uploaded by furryscaly.

A neat photograph of some species of Citronella Ant (Acanthomyops sp.) “farming” Aphids or Mealybugs (both Hemipterans).

The hemipteran insects feed on the roots of plants and exude a sugary substance called honeydew that the ants then feed on.

The subway exit that time forgot

This photograph was included today in weekly feature on BlogTO, whose name should tip you off as a local blog.

I’ve commented further on the photo there. I think it’s an interesting photograph because the subject is surprising rather than being a particularly good photograph.

The fur is dead. Long live the fur!

Ollie is a new dog, now that we’ve finished stripping him.
